Chaos erupted at the Garissa County Assembly on Thursday, October 19, when the House Business Committee convened to deliberate on the upcoming activities of the House.
The fight was informed by the changes proposed as regards the leadership of the house.
Some ward representatives elected on the ODM party ticket were unhappy with the changes that saw them removed from committees; one of them was also stripped of the Majority Leader position.
Speaker Abdi Idle said he was attacked by the aggrieved MCAs who started throwing chairs at him.
Idle stated that the attack was unwarranted as he was not interested in the subject positions.
"I found myself bombarded with chairs and tables. I am an interested party. I am not the majority leader. I don't know why they were disrupting the business of the assembly," he said.
The Speaker called on the police to summon ousted Majority Leader, Abubakar Khalif and his colleague from Sankuri Ward, Abdirahman Ali, for masterminding the chaos.
"While I was in the house presiding over a very important committee of the assembly, three of the members who were there kicked the chairs, and sandwiched me between the chairs but luckily I was rescued and whisked away by the sergeant-at-arms through the back door,” Idle said.
Police have already embarked on their investigations into the matter.
