The Met department had warned that El Nino will hit the country from mid-October to December.

President William Ruto has ruled out the possibility of the country experiencing El Nino rains as earlier predicted by the Kenya Meteorological Department.

Speaking during the church service on Sunday, the President said the country will only experience heavy rains that will not reach the El Nino levels.

Ruto, who appeared briefed by the Met Department, thanked God for a twist in the prediction saying the latest forecast is a relief for the country.

"Juzi mulisikia kwa habari kuhusu uwezekano wa kuwa na El Nino ambayo itaharibu kule na kwingine. Lakini mungu ni Nani, nimesikia wale watu (Met Department) wamesema tena Ile El Nino haitakuweko," Ruto said.

The Met department had warned that El Nino will hit the country from mid-October to December.

Kenyans were expecting heavy rains during this season as earlier predicted by Kenya's Met Department but so far the signs have been hinting otherwise.

While some parts of Kenya have experienced mass rains, others have experienced low rains.

The national and county governments had lined up resources to ensure that the effects of El Nino rains were contained.

The Met Department had also issued guidelines to Kenyans in anticipation of the rains.

Some of the regions that were expected to be significantly affected included Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Kericho, Bungoma, Kakamega, Busia, Trans Nzoia, West Pokot, Vihiga, Laikipia, Nakuru, and Narok.
