The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers in Vihiga County have launched a manhunt for two suspects who assaulted and robbed two female students before abandoning them in a forest.
DCI in a statement said the incident happened on Thursday, November 23 at daybreak in Kamgoi village.
According to the agency, the suspected robbers who were armed with knives and pangas broke into the room where the two college students were staying in.
“In their 6 am report to police, the victims who shared a room at Kamgoi village of Shaviringa within Hamisi Sub-county were suddenly woken up by the two robbers who bore pangas and knives, threatening to kill them if they raised any alarm,” read the DCI statement in part.

The suspects then took the victims’ mobile phones before forcing them from their room and took them to a nearby forest where they defiled and abandoned them.
“The fear-stricken victims' mobile phones were taken away before being forced out of the room to a nearby forest where they were assaulted, raped and abandoned,” the DCI stated.
The victims were rushed to a local health facility for medical assistance after recording a statement on the incident.
“As the victims get medical assistance at a local hospital, crucial leads are being followed to hunt down the suspects,” DCI added.
