Panic gripped a section of Juja in Kiambu County after detectives engaged a gang in a vicious crossfire trying to save a businessman who was under siege.
In an incident which occurred late on Wednesday, December 6, three men armed with pistols ambushed a businessman who had finished running his daily errands and was accounting for his daily sales.
They forced him to his car and started robbing him of his daily earnings.

"Orders to surrender were arrogantly defied when one of them sprang out of the car drawing his pistol and firing at the officers indiscriminately. A shootout then ensued as the detectives responded in self-defence," it added.
During the gun battle, the detectives managed to neutralize one member of the gang. However, his accomplices managed to escape but with serious gun wounds.
A pistol loaded with two rounds of 9mm calibre was recovered from the neutralized suspect, alongside several spent cartridges collected from the scene.
The detectives then followed different trails which led to the arrests of Elijah Mwangi Muthoni, 45 and David Mitamo, 21 who are believed to be part of the syndicate that has been terrorizing members of the public in the city.
Meanwhile, a manhunt for the other injured suspects was launched in entire Juja area.
