A manhunt has been launched after a police corporal attached to the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit shot his boss, Inspector Charles Mwangi.
According to a statement seen by Nairobileo, the officer on the run shot his senior three times while on duty.
Joseph Gitari was accused of committing the offence while on duty in Nyeri where he was noticed drunk.
The suspect fired at his boss after being relieved of his duties and instructed to return to a waiting vehicle.

"It was then the inspector noticed that the officer, responsible for safeguarding the property was drunk," the statement read in part.
"He missed one shot although two struck the inspector on his right hand and another in the waist, lodging in his body," the statement added.
However, Gitari managed to escape using a private vehicle after being disarmed.
The police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect extending beyond Nyeri County where he committed the crime.
Mwangi was however rushed to Mathari Hospital in Nyeri where he is undergoing treatment to remove the bullet lodged in the body.
