The Kenya Meteorological Department has advised Kenyans living in several parts of the country to prepare for heavy rainfalls scheduled to continue pounding from Friday, January 12.
In a statement, the weatherman announced that Nairobi will be among the areas which will receive above-average rainfall starting Friday.
The heavy rainfall will continue being experienced till January 18.
According to the forecast, residents living in the southern and central Rift Valley will also experience a similar phenomenon.
Southeast lowlands, parts of western Kenya, the Lake Victoria basin, and central highlands will also receive heavy rainfall.

"These include a few areas in western Kenya, especially those around the Lake Victoria basin (Siaya, Busia, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Vihiga, Kakamega and Nandi), Southern Rift Valley (Bomet, Kericho, Narok), the south-eastern lowlands (Kajiado, Kitui, Makueni, Machakos and Taita Taveta), the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi County
(Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Tharaka Nithi and Embu) and the coastal region (Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and the Southern parts of Tana River)," the weatherman listed the areas in the earlier forecast.
Following the expected rainfall, the meteorological department warned citizens to watch out for possible flashlights and flooding in some areas including Nairobi.
The weatherman also warned motorists of reduced visibility in areas around Limuru due to the cold weather.
Parents were also asked to protect their children as they go to school during the rainy season to avert cases of being swept away by flood water among other calamities.
However, the weatherman advised farmers to take advantage of the rain to plant various crops.
The changing weather patterns come after the El Nino which was projected to extend till January. however, the phenomenal was downscaled with forecasting indicating that El Nino will end in December 2023.
