Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced a waiver targeting some businesses in the city.
Through a gazette notice published on Friday, April 19, Sakaja's administration noted that the waiver mainly targets businesses that operate between 5 pm to 11 pm.
Nairobi City County Executive Committee Member for Finance and Economic Planning, Charles Kerich has specified that the waiver granted to outlets registered as 'bars and restaurants' has been widened to include Mega-bars and restaurants.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 5 (2) (a) of the Nairobi City County Tax Waivers Administration Act, 2013, the County Executive Committee Member for Finance and Economic Planning in concurrence with the Governor waives the following fees and charges for Financial Year 2023/2024," read the notice in part.

The said business owners will not pay the amount that was earlier gazetted while obtaining their licences.
In the notice, Sakaja's administration has waived licence fees for bars with a capacity of 30 people by 75 per cent. They will now be required to pay Ksh25,000 for licences.
For medium bars, their fees have been waived by 65 per cent and they will now be required to pay Ksh35,000.
Bar and restaurant businesses will enjoy a 50 per cent waiver and part with Ksh50,000 to obtain their licences.
Mega bars and restaurants with a capacity of 100 seats will pay Ksh100,000 after a 23 per cent waiver.
