A section of elected leaders from the Mt Kenya region now want the Ministry of Transport to be allocated Sh 100 billion in the next financial year.
Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thang'wa in a statement on Monday, May 6 after a meeting with Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen noted that the allocation of Sh 100 billion to the Ministry of Transport would ensure the completion of the Mau Mau Road and other road projects in the Mt Kenya Region.
“We all agreed to support the allocation of Sh 100 billion to the roads department to ensure the completion of all Mau Mau roads and other pending road projects,” read the statement in part.
The meeting was attended by MPs Alice Nga’ng’a (Thika), George Koimburi (Juja), Gabriel Kagombe (Gatundu South) Simon King'ara (Ruiru), James Wamacukuru (Kabete), John Machua (Kiambu Town) Anne Wamuratha (Kiambu Women Rep), Joseph Kahangara ( Lari), John Kiragu (Limuru) and John Njuguna (Kiambaa).

Officials from Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) and Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) also attended the meeting.
“Each MP provided a list of the roads that need rehabilitation in their respective constituencies. To the people of Githunguri, rest assured that I fully represented your interests, and soon the department will publish the list of all roads to be budgeted for in the upcoming budget, in due course,” Senator Karungo added.
The construction of the Mau Mau road which links Murang'a, Kiambu, Nyeri, and Nyandarua counties was started during the Jubilee administration under retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The 165-kilometer project however stagnated due to lack of funds.
