According to preliminary reports, the building stands next to the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), a non-profit research institute that focuses on livestock and agriculture.
By the time of this publication, the cause of the building collapse had not been made public. However, the Kenya Red Cross announced that it had deployed a team to help in the rescue mission.
"In Uthiru, Nairobi County, a building has collapsed, response teams are en route to the scene," Kenya Red Cross wrote on the X page.
"Ten people with minor injuries have been attended to at the scene by the Red Cross Action Team," it later sent an update.
The incident comes just days after another building collapsed in Kirinyaga, leaving one woman dead.
Neighbours managed to rescue the two children, who were sleeping in one of the rooms. The two children were in different rooms but their mother's room was near the collapsed building.
“I would like to assure you that we are going to investigate this incident as we wait for the owner of the building and if we find he violated the stipulated rules of construction action will be taken,”area police boss stated.
In a statement by Nairobi County, the emergency team was deployed immediately to help with rescue operations.
"The Nairobi City County emergency response team was swiftly deployed to the scene and continue to assist in evacuating residents to safety. As of 10:00 PM, all the families except four persons have been accounted for.
"The four missing persons include a nanny and two children from one household, as well as a 10-year-old girl from another residence. The father of the girl has arrived at the scene and informed the responders that the girl was home alone," part of the statement read.
