 President William Ruto will preside over the 2024 Madaraka Day celebrations. 

Thousands of Kenyans have arrived at the Masinde Muliro Stadium in Kanduyi, Bungoma County as Kenya marks its 61st Madaraka Day celebrations.

The gates to Masinde Muliro Stadium were opened as early as 4 am and Bungoma residents were lining up to get access to the stadium.

By 6 am the majority of the locals had been allowed into the renovated state-of-the-art stadium

Police Officers used horses to control the growing number of residents at the entrance of the stadium.

The 2024 Madaraka Day Celebrations will be presided over by President William Ruto and will be his second Madaraka Day fete since he came to power in September 2022.

President Ruto arrived in Bungoma on Thursday evening for a four-day visit to the county and was received by leaders from the region at the Matulo Airstrip.

Senior government officials including Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi are also expected to attend the Madaraka Day celebrations.

The Masinde Muliro Stadium which will host the fete has a capacity of 12,700 and has a VVIP section designed to accommodate 2,000 guests.

Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura on Friday revealed that the completion of phase 1 of the stadium cost the government Sh807 million and phase II will need an additional Sh790 million.

He also announced that the Matulo Airstrip in Bungoma was also rehabilitated at a cost of Sh139 million ahead of the Madaraka Day celebrations.
