Gatundu South Member of Parliament Gabriel Kagombe was on Friday, May 31, arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a boda boda rider in Thika two weeks ago.
The UDA MP was arrested by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kileleshwa Nairobi and was locked up at the Kamukunji police cells where he will spend the weekend.
National Police Service Spokesperson Resila Onyango confirmed Kagombe’s arrest saying the MP had gone into hiding after the Thika shooting incident.
His arrest came after DCI detectives conducted ballistic tests on all firearms at the scene and confirmed that Kagombe owned the gun that fired the bullet.
The Gatundu South lawmaker is facing murder charges and is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday, June 3 for plea-taking.

The incident happened on May 17 after Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a and Kamenu Ward MCA Peter Mburu disagreed over the construction of the Sh55 million Kiganjo market in Kamenu Ward, with both leaders claiming credit for the project.
The conflict quickly escalated, with supporters of both politicians throwing stones at each other.
In the melee, Kagombe allegedly drew his gun and fired several shots into the crowd.
David Nduati, a boda boda rider was shot dead during the incident while another person, Anthony Kamau, was seriously injured by a bullet that lodged in his chest.
DCI officers later ordered all firearm holders who were present during the incident to surrender their guns for ballistics.
The sleuths also grilled Ng’ang’a and her Gatundu North counterpart Elijah Njoroge over the chaos.
