  • According to Sifuna, ODM will only work with aspirants who’ve applied for party's the presidential ticket.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced that it will not support; an outsider in the 2022 presidential race.

According to ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, the party will only work with aspirants who’ve applied for the presidential ticket and paid the one million shilling non-refundable fee.

Addressing ANC Leader Musalia Mudavadi who has declared interest in the 2022 presidency, Sifuna noted that the only way the party will support him is if he ditches ANC and joins ODM.

Sifuna further noted that Mudavadi will have to go up against ODM Leader Raila Odinga and Governors; Hassan Joho (Mombasa) and Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega) who’ve declared interest in the party’s presidential ticket.

“There is no way ODM will support a candidate running for president on another party ticket. If ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi wants Raila Odinga's support, he should join ODM and take part in the party nominations with other aspirants.

“To get the ticket he would have to beat Raila, governors Wycliffe Oparanya and Hassan Joho, and others hopefuls,” he said in an opinion piece published by a local daily.

On the possibility of Mudavadi emerging victorious in ODM nominations, Sifuna noted that the ANC leader lacks a great track record, adding that he cannot even be compared to Governor Oparanya.

Sifuna opined that Mudavadi would have a hard time winning the race since the other participants have a better track record compared to his.

“What is this that Mudavadi has that Raila must support him? What is this expertise that he will bring to the table that Raila does not have? His track record cannot even compare with that of Oparanya. Oparanya has been governor for eight years and has done a good job for residents of Kakamega county.

“Look at the stadium Oparanya has built, it is the best in the country outside Nairobi. Look at the referral hospital that he is putting up, the roads and markets, the list is endless. On that score alone, Oparanya will floor Mudavadi in the nominations,” he said.
