President William Ruto has announced the return of Kazi Mtaani, a programme that was rolled out by former president Uhuru Kenyatta before being discontinued.
Speaking in Nakuru County on Monday, July 15, during the inspection of Nakuru Bus Park, the Head of State noted that the programme will resume next week.
"There are ladies here who have told me they want Kazi Mtaani. I have said in that Kazi Mtaani programme, 500 people will be working here starting next week as we ensure many youths get employment opportunities," President Ruto told Nakuru residents.
Kazi Mtaani was discontinued by President Ruto in 2022 after he claimed that it was outdated. The programme was launched by Uhuru in 2020.
Speaking in Kibra on October 25, 2022, during the launch of a housing project, the Head of State said that the programme was to be replaced with a better project.

He noted that instead of the youth collecting garbage as they used to do during Kazi Mtaani, they would be involved in building the houses under the affordable housing programme.
"Kazi Mtaani is a thing of the past. We should get rid of the work of collecting garbage on the streets. Now the job will be to build houses," the president remarked then.
Meanwhile, while inspecting the Nakuru Bus Park on Monday, President Ruto urged the young people to maintain peace.
"To the youth of Kenya, please do not allow people to turn our country into a land of fighting, destruction and chaos. Let's maintain peace," President Ruto stated.
