The suspect was arrested in Kayole's Soweto area. 

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday, July 15 arrested the prime suspect in the Mukuru Kwa Njenga murders.

In a statement, DCI said the 33-year-old suspect who has been identified as Collins Jumaisi Khalusha was arrested at Soweto in Kayole Sub County.

“The suspect was arrested at Soweto in Kayole Sub-County at around 3 am in a joint operation by the DCI Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau and Operations directorates, outside a club where he had gone to watch the Euro 2024 football finals,” read the statement in part.

After the arrest, the suspect led the detectives to his rented house in Kware, Mukuru Kwa Njenga meters away from the crime scene where the bodies and body parts had been recovered.

The officers conducted a quick search of the house and recovered 24 Airtel sim cardholders with new sim cards, 8 smartphones, two feature phones, a Laptop, one hard drive, two flash drives and one phone memory card, a machete, and 12 nylon Sacks.

Other items recovered include; a pair of industrial rubber gloves, 6 ID cards for men and 2 ID cards for women, a pink female handbag, female panties, 5 rolls of bhang, a huge clear sellotape, a nylon rope, a reflector Jacket, title deeds, notebooks and assorted documents.

“On interrogation, the suspect confessed to having lured, killed, and disposed of 42 female bodies at the dumping site, all murdered between 2022 and Thursday, 11th July 2024,” DCI stated.

According to the DCI, the suspect claimed that his first victim was his wife namely Imelda Judith Khalenya whom he strangled to death before dismembering her body and disposing it at the site.
