UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malalah on Thursday, July 25 met with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, and other leaders from the Western Region.

Addressing the media, Malalah said they met to as new generation leaders to analyze the political realignments in the country and to see where the interests of the Western Region lie.

Malalah noted that they agreed to hold a meeting will all leaders from the Western Region on Monday next week in Kakamega to discuss the way forward of the community.

“We have unanimously agreed that we will not speak for ourselves as we want; the problem we have had is that the current leaders have been speaking for their own personal interests.

“We have said that before we decide on anything, we must return to our people to hear what they want. We have agreed to hold a meeting with leaders from all five counties in the Western region on Monday in Kakamega to discuss and determine our way forward as a community,” said Malalah.

Sifuna on his part said the Western region witnessed Gen Z protests with the local youth raising critical issues that need to be resolved.

The ODM Secretary-General expressed hope that the new generation leaders would provide solutions after the Kakamega meeting.

“The western region has also seen a lot of Gen Z protests and they are raising critical issues that need to be addressed. It is our hope and desire that out of this consultation and the meeting that has been proposed in Kakamega we can all agree on what it is that we need to do as leaders and provide solutions,” Sifuna remarked.

Further Malalah said they didn’t ask for blessings from the political parties saying the move would have made fear in the Azimio and Kenya Kwanza political divides.

“We don’t need the blessings of our parties, we said we may make fear from both political divides and we came here with a common interest to discuss matters of our community,” Malalah added.

This comes a day after President William Ruto nominated the second batch of cabinet secretaries including close allies of ODM leader Raila Odinga.
