Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has dismissed claims that the handshake team is bribing Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) to pass the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) referendum bill.
Speaking in Turkana on Saturday, Odinga noted that the fact that the President promised MCAs car grants should not be interpreted to mean that they are being bribed to pass BBI.
According to the former Premier, just like Members of Parliament get car grants, so should MCAs.
“MPs are getting Sh7 million car grants. Is there a problem if we say MCAs should also get Sh2 million? It is not a bribe,” he said.

While popularizing BBI in the county, Odinga hit out at Deputy President William Ruto, accusing him of taking advantage of vulnerable youth by giving them wheelbarrows.
“You remember when they were campaigning in 2013? Mr Six Months. They promised a digital economy. That within six months, every child will have a laptop. Have you seen the laptops here in Kakuma?
They said they will build state-of-the-art stadiums in every county. ….They said very year they will be generating one million jobs…modern employment. Now they are forgetting what they promised youths and they are coming up with wheelbarrows…What will you do with a wheelbarrow?…. That is fooling youths. We want to bring proper jobs to our youths,” Odinga said.
The former Prime Minister was accompanied by Petroleum Cabinet Secretary John Munyes and a number of ODM Member of Parliaments who hit out at DP Rut and the Hustler brigade for opposing BBI.
