Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has weighed in on the alleged impeachment motion against Deputy President William Ruto, terming it a waste of time.
In an interview with Radio Jambo on Monday, Sakaja noted that he’ll oppose the motion if it is tabled in the Senate.
According to Sakaja, impeaching the DP is not a priority now, as there are other important issues that require the attention of the National Assembly and Senate.
He further noted that impeaching the DP could cause political tension, and give him sympathy among the electorate which could be a boost his 2022 presidential bid.
“Sijaskia mpango kama hio… Hatujazungumziwa, hatujadiscuss… Kwa siasa unahitaji akili na strategy, because kama haumsupport yeye, ata mkipata idadi ya wabunge ni kumpaa sympathy kwa wananchi, atapata sympathy aende straight to State House… I have not been told, hii ikija kwa bunge kesho I will vote no. Hii mambo ya impeachment sio jambo la maana, sioni jinsi itasaidia wananchi,” he said.

Elsewhere, Jubilee party Secretary General Raphael Tuju also dismissed the impeachment claims, noting that he’s not aware of any such motion.
“So far those are just speculations. There is no such Motion. It has not been discussed within the party. If there was such a discussion it would have been communicated to all members,” Tuju said.
Tuju made the remarks after Lugari MP Ayub Savula claimed that he had received 126 signatures from Jubilee legislators supporting his motion.
Speaking on Thursday last week, Savula; who has been spearheading the impeachment push noted that 126 MPs have already signed the motion.
According to Savula, he is now seeking an additional 106 signatures from legislators allied to the NASA coalition, in order to have the required 233 members for the motion to pass.
“I have heard our critics saying we cannot manage to impeach Ruto just because my party, ANC, does not have enough members. That is laughable because they do not understand the number of MPs from across the political divide who are supporting this motion,” he said.
