Gigiri Sub County Police Commander and the OCS Gigiri Police Station are among the 8 officers interdicted. 

Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli has interdicted eight police officers following the escape of Kware murder suspect Collins Jumaisi and 12 other Eritrean nationals from the Gigiri Police Station in Nairobi. 

Addressing the media on Tuesday, August 20, Masengelei said preliminary investigations indicate that insiders aided suspects to escape the station. 

Among the eight offices interdicted are the Gigiri Sub County Police Commander and the OCS Gigiri Police Station. 

“Our preliminary investigations indicate that the escape was aided by insiders considering that officers were deployed accordingly to guard the station. 

“Consequently, I have interdicted eight officers who were on duty last night among them the Gigiri Sub County Police Commander, OCS Gigiri Station, Duty Officer, Duty NCO, Station Guards, and Report Office personnel,” said Masengeli.

The acting police IG noted that the matter is currently under investigation by the internal affairs unit and any person found culpable will face the law. 

At the same time, Masengeli announced that the police have launched a manhunt on the escapees. 

He appealed to members of the public with information that would lead to the arrest of the suspects to report to the nearest police station or contact the police hotline numbers. 

“We further appeal to members of the public with any information that may lead to the rearrest of the suspects especially the murder suspect Collins Jumaisi to report to the nearest police station of the police hotline numbers,” Masengeli added. 

Jumaisi and the other 12 suspects reportedly escaped the Gigiri Police station on Tuesday morning. 

The suspects broke through the cells by cutting through a wire mesh, before climbing the perimeter wall of the station to escape. 

Jumaisi is the main suspect behind the Kware murders and had confessed to killing 42 women, among them his wife, who was the first victim of the macabre killings.
