The murder suspect escaped from Gigiri Police Station on Tuesday morning, August 20.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has announced that it is seeking the public's help in re-arresting the main suspect in the Kware killings, Collins Jumaisi, who escaped custody on Tuesday.

In a notice on Thursday, August 22, the directorate promised a 'significant cash reward' for information leading to the apprehension of the suspect.

"A significant cash reward will be provided to anyone with credible information leading to the suspect's arrest. The suspect is from Shiru sub-location, Shaviringa location, Hamisi sub-county in Vihiga County.

"Information on the suspect's whereabouts can be reported confidentially to the anonymous #FichuakwaDCI hotline at 0800722203, or to the police hotlines 999, 911, and 112, or to any police station in the republic,” DCI stated.

Jumaisi was among 13 suspects who escaped from the Gigiri Police Station on Tuesday morning, August 20. The 12 other suspects were Eritrean nationals.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli stated that preliminary investigations indicated that insiders aided suspects to escape the station. 

Masengeli consequently interdicted eight police officers following the escape, including the Gigiri Sub County Police Commander and the OCS of Gigiri Police Station.

“Our preliminary investigations indicate that the escape was aided by insiders considering that officers were deployed accordingly to guard the station.

“Consequently, I have interdicted eight officers who were on duty last night among them the Gigiri Sub County Police Commander, OCS Gigiri Station, Duty Officer, Duty NCO, Station Guards, and Report Office personnel,” Masengeli remarked.
