There was drama during the Jubilee senate parliamentary group meeting on Tuesday after it ended abruptly.
Members who attended the meeting indicate that the directive to remove Majority Whip Irungu Kanga’ta was the source of the disruption.
This is after senators allied to the Tangatanga faction demanded concrete explanations on why Kanga’ta should resign. Following the disagreement, Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen claimed that Jubilee Party secretary-general Raphael Tuju banged tables in anger ending the meeting.
“None of the senators who spoke supported the removal of Irungu Kang’ata. They asked Kang’ata to resign, he refused. We asked they give us the charges before Kang’ata they said he wrote a letter against BBI in the Mt. Kenya region,” said Murkomen.
Ahead of the meeting, it was highly speculated that Kang’ata would be removed following his controversial letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta regarding the popularity of the BBI in Mt.Kenya.

Murkomen further vowed to stand with Kang’ata alongside the six senators who were expelled from the party.
“We will accommodate Isaac Mwaura & Sen. Kang’ata. We will stand with Sen. Kang’ata & evidence be tabled including numbers & signatures that signed his removal. Sen. Kang’ata remains Majority whip in the senate. The people running Govt. are now the minority,” Mukomen added.
On his part, Kang’ata maintained that he could not be cowed for speaking the truth on the BBI.
“All senators who have spoken in that meeting have supported me. We should not use BBI to divide our people. I am now noticing that this problem seems to have started after handshake, now imagine the guy of handshake becoming the president of this country,” Irungu said.
By press time, the Jubilee Party had confirmed the removal of Kang'ata as the majority whip.
