Five people are reported to have perished in a nasty road crash on Sunday, August 24.

According to sources, the accident, involving a small car, truck and tractor, occurred at a spot in Kakamega County's Murgus area along the busy Eldoret-Malaba Highway.

The truck coming from Eldoret rammed into the tractor's rear, which in turn swerved to ram into an oncoming Toyota Probox that had the five family members onboard.

Lugari Constituency OCPD Julius Melly confirmed the tragic accident, adding that the deceased's bodies had been ferried to the Webuye Hospital morgue, with the two who sustained severe injuries getting admission at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for specialised treatment.

The accident occurred a day after another one on the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway on Saturday, August 24.

Police confirmed that two people were left dead and over 20 others injured after a multiple-vehicle crash in the Migaa area.

A survivor at the scene said the bus had been driven at a modest speed before it started going out of hand, prompting reactions from the passengers.

Simba bus, which had ferried passengers, hit a stationary truck at the scene before ramming into another vehicle and later veering off the road and rolling down a river.

Earlier, responders from the Kenya Red Cross showed up at the scene to undertake rescue missions.

According to the humanitarian agency, 44 people sustained injuries of varied degrees at the scene.

Fourteen were admitted to the Molo Sub County Hospital for further treatment, while the remaining 30 were treated at the scene.
