Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo amused attendees at the official launch of Azimio leader Raila Odinga's AUC chairmanship bid when he humorously claimed that he was not as short as they might have thought.

As he stood up to deliver his remarks during the event at State House, Nairobi, a platform was placed for him to step on to ensure he could comfortably reach the microphone.

However, when he got to the stage, the former Head of State removed the platform before saying, "I am not as short as you think I am."

A State House aide then proceeded to adjust the microphone, which Obasanjo accessed comfortably, before taking away the platform.

In his remarks, the former Nigerian president thanked President Wiliam Ruto for the occasion and his support for Raila's candidature.

"President Ruto, I want to thank and salute you. We have never had an occasion like this where a candidate is given so much support at home like you have given Raila. You have not only made him a candidate of Kenya but also the candidate of the East African community," he remarked.

Obasanjo added that Raila is the best the African Union Commission can have.

On his part, Raila affirmed that he was ready to take up the role, urging the African Heads of State to support him.

He not that his selection to be Kenya's candidate was not a one man's ambition but an African journey to serve the motherland.

"My selection to be Kenya's candidate is not about one man's ambition but an African's journey to serve the motherland. I plan to constitute my cabinet with a continental outlook. I am ready to serve; my heart is ready and my hands are steady and with your support I shall get the opportunity to be of service to Africa, the cradle of mankind. I am made in Eastern Africa for Africa," Raila stated.
