Five pupils on Friday, August 30 collapsed after police officers lobbed teargas canisters inside Meru Primary School in Meru County.
The police officers were engaging protestors who staged demonstrations against Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza when they lobbed the canisters inside the Primary School.
A video seen by Nairobileo.co.ke showed the pupils receiving first aid from teachers in Meru Primary School.
Others were rushed to hospital by ambulance to receive further medical attention.
Meru Primary School Head teacher Eva Gichuru has condemned the incident saying there were about four canisters that were lobbed inside the school.

She noted that one canister got inside a classroom with students inside as they were doing their normal learning activities.
However, Gichuru said the incident was accidental and some of the protestors jumped over the school fence as they engaged in running battles with the police.
“There were about four. Some tear gas canisters entered the classroom where the children were. But it was accidental because some protesters jumped and entered the school, which was unfortunate,” said the Meru Primary School Headteacher.
Meru residents have been staging protests against Governor Mwangaza demanding she vacate office following her recent impeachment.
On 20 August, the Senate upheld the impeachment of Governor Mwangaza for gross violation of the Constitution, misconduct, and abuse of office.
However, the High Court suspended her removal from office and she filed a petition challenging the impeachment.
