The MP was directed to appear before the commission on Thursday, September 5, 2024.

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s close ally and Embakasi North Member of Parliament James Gakuya over making inciteful utterances.

In a statement seen by nairobileo.co.ke, NCIC directed Gakuya to appear before the commission on Thursday, September 5, 2024.

“Take notice that you are hereby required to appear at the National Cohesion and Integration Commission offices within Britam Towers Upper Hill 18th Floor on Thursday 5th September 2024 at 11:00 am to assist the Commission with aforementioned ongoing investigations.

“Whereas that failure to appear in person at the aforementioned place, date, and time, is an offence as provided under Section 63(c) as read with Section 63(e) of the National Cohesion and Integration Act,” read the statement in part.

The commission noted that it is investigating the remarks made by the UDA MP against the Somali ethnic group.

According to NCIC, Gakuya’s sentiments are likely to incite feelings of contempt, hatred, hostility, violence, or discrimination and affect harmonious coexistence between different Ethnic groups in Kenya which is contrary to Section 62(1) (a) of the National Cohesion and Integration Act.

The Embakasi North MP while speaking at a past event claimed that the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) was being handed over to Somalis.

Gakuya warned the Kikuyu against selling their properties in Nairobi CBD to Somalis saying they would take over the entire city from the Kikuyus.

"If you look at Nairobi CBD we have handed it over to Somalis, what I can tell the Kikuyus is that giving out properties that are in Nairobi CBD to those foreigners just because they are the highest bidders with pirate money they get from the ocean and using it buy our properties in Nairobi, they will take Nairobi from us.

“They have taken over Eastleigh and are now targeting Nairobi CBD and we were the owners of those apartments,” said Gakuya.
