Kang'ethe was extradited to the USA from Nairobi on September 1, 2024.

The Suffolk Superior Court in Pemberton Square, Boston, United States, has denied fugitive Kevin Kang'ethe bail or bond terms.

This after the suspect pleaded not guilty to killing his girlfriend, Margaret Mbitu, after he was arraigned on Tuesday, September 3.

In a statement by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the court ruled that Kang'ethe be held without bail and without prejudice.

"Kangethe was extradited to the USA from Nairobi on September 1, 2024, after a successful process by Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson M. Ingonga, OGW.

"He was arraigned before the Suffolk Superior Court in Pemberton Square, Boston, on September 3, 2024 and denied murdering Margaret Mbitu," the ODPP remarked.

The court heard that Kang'ethe and the deceased were in a romantic relationship that had been marred by reports of domestic violence.

The matter was scheduled for a pre-trial on November 5, 2024.

On February 7, 2024, Kang'ethe escaped from Muthaiga Police Station after his initial arrest in Kenya in January, 2024.

However, the suspect was later re-arrested in Ngong, Nairobi, on February 13, 2024.

Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina ruled that Kang'ethe be extradited to the U.S. after stating that the prosecution had adduced sufficient factual and legal basis to warrant the extradition.

The suspect is accused of killing his girlfriend in Massachusetts, USA, on October 31, 2023, by inflicting multiple stabs on her face and neck before leaving her body in a locked vehicle.
