Two suspects who were transporting a cache of explosive materials along the Kisii-Oyugis road have been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
In a statement on Monday, September 9, the DCI disclosed that the two suspects, Wilfred Chaha Mokami, 28, and Chabere Mwita Mahenda, 49, were aboard separate vehicles that detectives flagged down.
"Acting on intelligence, detectives from Kisii Central have swooped in and apprehended two individuals in possession of a cache of explosive materials.
"Wilfred Chaha Mokami, 28, and Chabere Mwita Mahenda, 49, were cruising down the Kisii-Oyugis road when their vehicle, registration number KDQ 445R, and trailer, registration number ZH 4943, were flagged down by eagle-eyed officers," DCI stated.
Upon searching the vehicles, the DCI sleuths discovered three cartons packed with 459 pieces of water gel explosives (V6) and two detonating cords that were hidden in plain sight.

The suspects were taken into custody at Mosocho Police Station as further investigations into the incident got underway.
"Meanwhile, the seized explosives and vehicles are being held as exhibits," DCI remarked.
In a separate incident, DCI detectives on Monday, September 9, arrested a Kenyan and German national for allegedly swindling a foreign national over Sh52 million.
The victim, a Swiss national, was deceived into registering a company intended to transfer USD 62.8 million to his home country.
The funds were obtained after his father sold some property, but not before the victim paid taxes and facilitation fees to the scammers, Julius Kirimi Muthuri and Richard Olaf Heinig.
"The two individuals are suspected of having scammed a Swiss national over Ksh52 million and were ready to fleece him more today just before the lynx-eyed detectives pounced on them," DCI stated.
