No casualties have been reported from the fire incident. 

A fire tragedy at Jua Kali Green Corner in Embakasi, Nairobi County has left 24 homes down to ashes.

Kenya Red Cross in a statement on Saturday, September 14 said the fire broke out at 1 am in the area.

Nairobi City County fire brigade and the Kenya Red Cross swiftly responded and managed to put off the inferno.

“Around 1 AM, a fire broke out at Jua Kali Green Corner in Embakasi. Kenya Red Cross and Nairobi City County Fire Brigade responded swiftly, extinguishing the fire with no casualties. Unfortunately, 24 homes were destroyed,” Kenya Red Cross stated.

No casualties have been reported from the fire incident by the time of publishing this article. 

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino had earlier called on the Nairobi firefighters to move with speed and extinguish the fire to prevent severe damage.

“Fire outbreak at Juakali Embakasi East. Sadness in Embakasi.Nairobi County Fire Brigade should move at speed and put out the fire,” Babu stated.

The incident comes months after a gas explosion in the Mradi area of Embakasi left six people dead and more than 270 others seriously injured.

The gas explosion occurred when a truck carrying gas ignited, triggering a massive fire that rapidly spread to the surrounding areas.

Vehicles parked near the site of the explosion and several businesses were also destroyed in the huge inferno.

Following the incident, President William Ruto ordered the arrest and prosecution of government officials linked to the incident.

Nairobi Governor Johson Sakaja ordered an immediate operation to shut down gas plants operating in residential areas.
