Investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are running after a suspected drug trafficker linked with a bhang consignment.
The detectives stationed at the Kadzandani Police Station in Nyali Sub-County acted on a tip-off from civilians to trace the drugs valued at Sh25 million.
They seized the wares at the suspect's hideout in Kiembeni's Green Estate.
"Acting on a tip-off from vigilant members of the public, the officers zeroed in on a notorious trafficker plying his illicit trade at Green Estate in Kiembeni," partly read the DCI statement released on Friday evening, September 20.
The officers stumbled on 16 hefty sacks of the substance weighing 864.9 kilograms.
A 30-year-old woman, identified as Cynthia Anyango, who was found in the suspect's house, was apprehended to aid in the investigations and the search for the trafficker.
The sacks were taken to the police station, where they would be kept as exhibits in court during the suspect's trial upon his arrest.
This came days after a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier was apprehended in connection with drug trafficking in the coastal city.
He was arrested in the company of a juvenile.
The DCI, in a statement on Sunday, September 15, said the ambush in several Mombasa localities was undertaken by a multi-agency team comprising law enforcers and other government and non-government agencies in Operation Usalama.
The officers targeted dens in among other areas, Kengeleni, Magodoroni and Shanzu areas, and Kisumu Ndogo.
The KDF soldier was found to be in possession of Heroin, Marijuana and Diazepam.
The KDF officer, whose identity remained under wraps, and his accomplice were found with Heroin, Marijuana, and Diazepam.
They were booked into police custody ahead of their arraignment.
