Anti-riot police officers lobed tear gas canisters to disperse the protesting lecturers.

Chaotic scenes unfolded in Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD) on Monday, September 23, as police clashed with striking university lecturers.

In photos and videos viewed by Nairobileo.co.ke, anti-riot police were forced to fire tear gas to disperse the lecturers, who had taken to the streets in protest.

The lecturers blew vuvuzelas, chanted, and marched through the city, with some carrying placards highlighting their grievances.

Police were later seen arresting some of the lecturers and loading them into police vehicles stationed around the city.

One of the lecturers, during her arrest, was heard shouting, "Why are you arresting me? What have I done?"

The lecturers were protesting over delays in the implementation of their 2021-25 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the government.

"All dons throughout the country, listen to the voice of the union. Stop and join the strike. I want you to intensify and upscale this strike," Wasonga stated.

The Employment and Labour Relations Court had previously issued an order halting the strike after a notice from the lecturers, but the lecturers defied the order and proceeded with the strike.
