The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) on Tuesday, September 24 impounded several school vehicles for failing to meet the set requirements for school transportation.
According to the authority, the vehicles were impounded during an enforcement exercise in Kisii County.
Consequently, NTSA reminded all schools across the country to comply with the set requirements which include valid road licences.
Among the items school vehicles need to be compliant with include a valid insurance cover, valid road service licences and an inspection certificate.

All vehicles used to transport students also have to be road-worthy.
"Several school transport vehicles were impounded within Kisii County in the ongoing Usalama Barabarani compliance checks," NTSA announced.
"Vehicles ferrying children must be fitted with functional speed limiters that transmit data to the NTSA Intelligent Road Safety Management System (IRSMS)."
NTSA has been conducting compliance checks on the roads following the increase in accidents this year.
According to the authority, 7,198 Kenyans were involved in road accidents between January 1 to April 1. Out of that, 1,189 died.
3,316 were seriously injured while 2,693 sustained minor injuries. Pedestrians were the most affected by the accidents.
