The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers from the Kenya Army Corps of Engineers have launched the construction of Gatundu-Munyu road in Kamagambo, Thika Town Constituency, Kiambu County. 

In a statement on Wednesday, September 25, the construction will include murram layering, drainage installation, and paving of approximately 2.5 kilometers of road.

"The project will include murram layering, drainage installation, and paving of approximately 2.5 kilometers of road, stretching from the Thika-Garissa Highway to Mountain View Phase Two," KDF stated.

According to KDF, the launch of the construction of the road was approved following a request from locals in the community.

The Kenya Army Corps of Engineers is being led by Combat Engineers Brigade Commander Brigadier Victor Mburu and Construction Engineers Brigade Commander Brigadier Joseph Mutua.

"Brigadier Mburu acknowledged the community’s request for assistance and mentioned that after extensive consultations, the road works were approved," KDF stated.

"Brigadier Mutua emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration between the KDF and the Thika community, adding that the improved road would facilitate the movement of people and goods in all weather conditions, promoting the area’s economic growth."

KDF noted that commanders are committed to ensuring the timely and quality completion of the road and revealed plans for future projects in Makongeni and Kiganjo areas of Thika.

The initiative is part of KDF's civil-military cooperation projects that are aimed at giving back to the community.

"This initiative is part of the Kenya Defence Forces’ (KDF) Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) projects, aimed at giving back to the community in preparation for KDF Day, set to be observed on 14th October 2024," KDF explained.
