According to the online poster, the Head of State was to address the nation at 4 pm today.

State House has refuted reports of a planned State of the Nation Address by President William Ruto today.

In response to a poster that was circulating online, Najma Ismail, the Media Relations Director at State House, indicated that the poster was fake.

She called on the public to ignore the media invite as it did not emanate from them.

The authors of the fake poster had purported that the media invite was sent out to the newsrooms by Emmanuel Talam, who is the Press Secretary at State House.

According to the fake poster, the Head of State was to address the nation at 4 pm, just three hours before Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua addressed the nation.

Gachagua is set to hold a press conference ahead of the debate on his impeachment in the National Assembly on Tuesday, October 8.

While allies and staff of the DP remain tight-lipped on what the address will be all about, it is expected that Gachagua's address will be centred around his impeachment.

"Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will hold a Press Conference at the Official Residence in Karen at 7 pm, this evening, Monday, October 7, 2024," read part of the media invite.

"Those who need to set up should be at the residence by 5 pm and the rest of the crew by 5.30 pm."
