Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced the introduction of new regulations for the use of Boda Boda within the CBD.

In a statement dated Monday, October 7, Sakaja revealed that his administration was introducing picking and dropping points for the riders.

The county boss detailed that officials from his government had already commenced implementing this new directive by marking areas for pick off and drop off.

According to Sakaja, the move is aimed at enhancing road safety and addressing issues of traffic flow within the CBD.

"Nairobi City County government, under the leadership of H.E. Governor Sakaja, recognized the importance of regulating this industry to ensure the safety of both riders and passengers, through marking picking and dropping points within the central business district, boda boda riders will have designated areas to wait for passengers, reducing the chaos and congestion in the city's busy streets," read the statement in part.

"This not only improves the flow of traffic but also creates a safer environment for all road users. The benefits of this strategic move go beyond just traffic flow and safety."

On the other hand, he detailed that the move would dignify the profession and also eliminate unhealthy competition among sector players.

"Additionally, the designated picking and dropping points will bring about a sense of order and structure to the boda boda riders.

"They will have a fair and equal chance of getting passengers as they wait their turn at the designated points, eliminating the previous chaos and competition between riders," Sakaja added.

Boda Boda is one of the most common modes of transport across the country. Most people prefer them because it is faster compared to vehicles which are often stuck in traffic jams.
