The suspect had been on the run before he was arrested.

Police officers from Kondele Police Station in Kisumu County have arrested a suspect wanted in connection with the hacking to death of two individuals.

In a statement on Tuesday, October 8, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stated that the suspect, Oliver Ochieng, is suspected of being involved in the brutal murder of two men on July 1, 2024, at Kibuye Market in Kisumu.

According to the directorate, the incident came about following a dispute over the control of proceeds from a business in the market.

"After months of relentless pursuit, police officers from Kondele Police Station have finally arrested an elusive murder suspect, Oliver Ochieng Jaoko, also known as Olivert.

"Ochieng’s arrest comes in the wake of his involvement in the brutal hacking to death of Evans Opiyo and Mohammed Saleh on July 1, 2024, at Kibuye Market over a dispute that erupted over the control of proceeds from five washrooms at the bustling market," DCI stated. 

The suspect is in police custody.

The suspect went large following the incident before a manhunt was launched and he was apprehended at Manyatta area in Kisumu.

"A manhunt was launched, and acting on a tip-off, he was smoked out of his hideout in Manyatta area and apprehended," DCI remarked.

The suspect is currently in police custody in processing for arraignment.

"The DCI appreciates the members of the public for their continued support in sharing valuable information in the fight against criminal activities," DCI explained.
