The 600 officers are on pre-deployment training ahead of the peacekeeping mission in Haiti.

Haiti's Prime Minister Dr. Garry Conille met with Kenyan police officers on a pre-deployment training ahead of a peacekeeping mission in Haiti.

In a statement on Saturday, October 12, the National Police Service (NPS) noted that Conille met the officers at the National Police College Embakasi "A" Campus, Nairobi. 

While addressing the officers, the Haiti PM stated that he was looking forward to seeing them in Haiti to join their colleagues who arrived in June.

"In his remarks, His Excellency the Prime Minister Dr. Conille said that he looks forward to personally seeing the NPS officers in Haiti and further extended his gratitude to the Kenyan people for the sacrifice and support extended to the people of Haiti," NPS stated.

The Haiti PM was accompanied by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja during his visit to the police college.

Kanja disclosed that 600 officers are currently training at the college and will soon be ready for deployment to Haiti.

The officers are drawn from specialized NPS units, including the General Service Unit (GSU), Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU), Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU), and the all-female Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT).

In a joint briefing with Conille on Friday, October 11, at State House, Nairobi, President William Ruto confirmed that the officers will be deployed next month.

This comes even as the United Nations Security Council extended the mandate of the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in Haiti that is led by Kenyan police.

The mission was extended by a year, meaning that the Kenyan officers will be in the Caribbean nation till early October 2025.
