From photos taken from the scene of the accident, all the vehicles that were being ferried were damaged.


One person died on Friday, October 18 after a trailer ferrying vehicles overturned along the Mai Mahiu escarpment.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the vehicle was headed to Mai Mahiu around 7 am when the driver lost control while navigating a corner. 

In the process, the vehicle plunged into a ditch that was nearby before eventually overturning on the ground.

Immediately after, onlookers and residents rushed to the scene in an attempt to rescue those who were involved in the incident.

So far, police have only reported the recovery of one body with investigations underway to establish the identity of the deceased.

“Further updates will be provided as the situation develops and more details emerge,” a police officer reported to the media.

Preliminary reports also reveal that that the trailer was ferrying vehicles for a car dealer as the vehicles were all new. The exact amount of damages is yet to be established.

At the time of publishing, recovery of the wreckage had already begun with the guidance of the local police.

The Mai Mahiu escarpment has been one of the hotspots for accidents in recent years owing to the terrain and the many corners in the area.
