The eight-storey building collapsed on Sunday, prompting a multi-agency rescue operation by the Kenya Red Cross, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and Nairobi City County.

In a notice dated October 16 seen by Nairobileo.co.ke, the Nairobi City County had asked the occupants of the building to vacate within 14 days.

"You are hereby required to stop further development/occupation forthwith and remove the said development and vacate the building within a period of 14 days," read part of the notice to the owner and occupiers of the building.

The Nairobi City County stated that the building's construction lacked authorisation from the county and had been classified as dangerous.
