Gachagua described Trump's victory as one of the greatest political comebacks of this generation.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has congratulated the US President-elect Donald Trump.

In a statement on his social media pages on Wednesday, November 6, the former DP described Trump's projected victory as one of the greatest political come-backs of this generation.

"Congratulations President Donald Trump, for one of the greatest political come-backs of our generation. Your victory is clear proof that resilience and a never-say-die attitude will always trump obstacles on the path to your destiny," he said.

Trump defeated Harris, a Democrat who had been seeking to make history herself as the first woman, first Black woman, and first south Asian American to become president in the US’s 248-year history.

Trump secured crucial victories in several swing states, including North Carolina, Georgia, and Pennsylvania which put him on a clear path to surpass the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency.

Local and international leaders began congratulating Trump following his projected victory with Kalonzo Musyoka stating that IEBC can learn a lesson on conducting a fair election.

"I extend my congratulations to President-Elect Donald J. Trump on your election as 47th President of the United States of America. Americans have placed their trust in your ideas and leadership, as evidenced by the outcomes of the electoral college and popular vote. Over 150 million Americans voted in the historic November 5 election, and their votes were counted, tallied and announced in less than 24 hours.

"I believe Kenya, and in particular the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), can learn from the United States about how to conduct a free, fair, and credible election. I wish you every success and look forward to working with you," he said.
