A man accused of killing his 24-year-old wife has been arrested after months of evading the police.
In a statement on Tuesday, November 12, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said Anthony Mwenda who is accused of murdering Millicent Mwendwa was arrested following a sting operation at Wempa, Murang'a South.
DCI said Mwenda gruesomely murdered Millicent on July 11, 2024, in Mugwe location following a family dispute that turned deadly.
"In the unfortunate homicide reported by the chief - Mugwe location on July 11, 2024, the suspect turned against his wife of two years following a family dispute, inflicting fatal cuts on her head and legs. Neighbours whose attention was drawn to the ruction arrived at Mwenda's house to find a profusely bleeding Millicent, and beside her, a Maasai rungu, a black whip and a panga all soaked in blood. More blood on the wall and floor evidenced the young lady's struggle to escape with her life," the investigating agency said.
According to the DCI, police from Chuka arrived at the scene only to find Millicent deceased and Mwenda long gone.
"Acting on forensic intelligence, a joint team of Homicide and Crime Research detectives conducted a crackdown in Murang'a South today, smoking out the suspect from his hideout at Wempa area," DCI said.
Mwenda will be arraigned in court on Wednesday.
This comes barely a week after DCI announced the arrest of the prime suspect in the gruesome murder of radio presenter Lilian Achieng' Aluko
In an update on November 8, 2024, the DCI said George Mwenda Mutegi was arrested in his hideout in Kaanwa, Tharaka Nithi County.
The investigating agency said the arrest came after days of intense investigations which kicked off on November 1, 2024, the night Mutegi is believed to have murdered Aluko.
"The suspect's arrest by a combined team of hawkshaws from DCI Hqs augmented by their Meru counterparts is a culmination of days of meticulous investigations launched on 1st November, 2024, the night Mutegi is believed to have murdered his girlfriend. After the heinous killing, Mutegi disappeared and erased his footprints," DCI said.
