The senator had reportedly cautioned the president of the implications of impeaching Gachagua.

Nominated senator Veronica Maina has denounced reports that she had addressed counsel to President William Ruto against allowing the impeachment of former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.

Tweets emerged purportedly from Maina suggesting that Ruto's administration was headed for failure due to the president's reluctance to take advice.

In her quick clarification, Maina, who was sponsored to the Senate by the ruling UDA party, restated that she fully supports the president's agenda and dissociated herself from the tweets.

"I will continue to support the president and this administration because it's important that our nation succeeds. And for the avoidance of doubt, I do believe we will make it," she said.

Before her current role in the Upper House, Maina served as the secretary general of the UDA party.

UDA nominated Senator Veronica Maina.

She accused her detractors of striving to sow a seed of discord between her and the president.

Maina called on her supporters and all Kenyans to rally behind the president to help him achieve the transformative agenda he has for the country.

"We will work around the challenges and continue to offer solutions from the legislative arm. To those who have been trending fake news around my name and creating parody accounts using my image, I would advise you to give up. I am too clear-minded and focused to be distracted by your cheap gimmicks, and I will not use my energy to engage you on social media," she said.

Maina's clarification came days after another of Ruto's stalwarts denied reports that he was cutting ties with the president.

Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) commissioner Johnson Muthama has addressed claims of defecting from the UDA party, where he once served as the national chairman.

Muthama hit out at individuals making claims about his stance in the 2027 General Elections, arguing that it was too early to discuss succession politics.

Additionally, he emphasised that he was still a member of UDA, noting that he holds the ideals and aspirations of the party dearly.

"As a member of an independent commission, I am prohibited from engaging in political discourse or making political statements. It is absurd to see certain individuals making baseless claims about my alleged stance on the 2027 elections.

"How can we possibly be discussing succession politics three years in advance? People should focus on more constructive matters. I am firmly in UDA because it is the political party which has ideals and aspirations which I hold dearly," he said.

Muthama was heavily involved in the mobilisation of Ruto's votes in the Ukambani region in the run-up to the 2022 General Elections.

In February 2023, the former Machakos Senator was nominated by Speaker Moses Wetangula as a non-MP Commissioner to PSC.
