ODM leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday defended the Hustler Movement against Parliamentarians who wanted to pass a Bill against the faction allied to Deputy President William Ruto.
In a statement on February 17, 2021, Odinga called on Members of Parliament to dismiss the Bill arguing that such a proposal would be against freedom of expression strides that Kenya has made.
"I would strongly appeal to members of parliament to drop any attempts to legislate against this otherwise deadly slogan," Odinga's statement read.
"As a country, we fought for and should respect free speech and association. We should be able to allow the Deputy President and his team to continue with their chosen slogan," he added.
He pointed out that the 'Hustler Vs Dynasty' slogan is dangerous likening it to the Nationalism agenda by German killer ruler Adolf Hitler who oversaw the Jewish Genocide.
"Those of us who see the dangers should educate our people against falling for it. I have faith that Kenyans will see through this divisive and potentially deadly rhetoric and its attack on fellow Kenyans and reject it in the end," the former Prime Minister stated.
