Laikipia has become the first Mt Kenya county to pass the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment), Bill 2020.
This brings to eleven, the counties which have passed the Bill.
Other counties that have passed the Bill are Nairobi, Kisii, Siaya, Kisumu, Kajiado, West Pokot, Busia, Trans Nzoia, Vihiga, and Homa Bay.
So far, only Baringo County has rejected the Bill. Twenty-four out of 47 counties are required to pass the Bill.
The Bill's passage marks a monumental milestone for President Uhuru Kenyatta after speculations that the region might be against the document.
For months, Deputy President William Ruto and his allies have initiated a series of campaigns in the region in an apparent bid to dismiss the Bill.
However, the passage indicates that recent meetings by President Uhuru pooling leaders together from the region have paid off.
Early this month, the head of state-organized a meeting at the Sagana State Lodge where he met leaders from the region to drum up support for the Bill.
During the meeting, the President formally pledged a car grant for MCAs.
Nairobi County is now the next focus as MCAs considered the billion Thursday.
