Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has warned of mass protests in 2025 over the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
In a statement dated Friday, November 6, the MP expressed that there was a need for the Commission to be constituted with urgency.
According to the ODM lawmaker, February 2025 should be the deadline for the exercise.
He explained that the lack of an electoral commission was a disservice to the democratic foundation of the country.

By the latest February 2025, we must have a fully constituted, well funded IEBC, a failure to which a massive countrywide protest shall be instituted by citizens . We must protect Kenya's hegemony as a bastion of democracy within the African continent. Kenya needs a Renaissance!

"By the latest February 2025, we must have a fully constituted, well-funded IEBC, a failure to which a massive countrywide protest shall be instituted by citizens," Amisi warned.
"We must protect Kenya's hegemony as a bastion of democracy within the African continent. Kenya needs a renaissance."
Currently, IEBC cannot undertake any mandate envisioned in the 2010 Constitution given that there are no commissioners.
This had left several constituencies without MPs as the IEBC has no commissioners to undertake byelections.
Why Recruitment of IEBC Has Stalled
According to the government, the recruitment of Commissioners stalled after Azimio la Umoja challenged membership in the selection panel.
In particular, Government Spokesperson Issac Mwaura detailed that the opposition outfit was seeking to replace Augustine Muli with Koki Muli as a member of the panel.
"The reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), has however been in limbo due to the replacement of Augustine Muli with Koki Muli by the Azimio la Umoja Coalition party, which resulted in a tribunal order restraining parliament from submitting names to His Excellency the President for appointment of members to the selection panel."
"The President is ready and willing to appoint the selection panel once the submission by parliament is made," Mwaura explained in a statement dated November 15, 2024.
