The new directive will help the Ministry assess staff performance and identify areas for growth.

The Ministry of Interior has announced mandatory performance reviews of all its staff every six months.

As detailed in a statement dated Wednesday, December 11, supervisors across various departments were tasked with evaluating the performances of the staff.

The various departments and agencies under the Ministry of Interior include the National Government Administrative Officers(NGAO), the Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) among others.

"Moving forward, performance reviews of staff will be mandatory every six months. Supervisors must make a deliberate attempt to evaluate how personnel are performing and provide the necessary support to help them fulfil their job responsibilities effectively," the statement read.

On his part, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo asked supervisors to prioritise the evaluations and not treat them just as a formality.

"Supervisors are required to prioritize these evaluations, not merely as a formality but as a strategic tool to assess staff performance and identify areas for growth, as we commit to effective and efficient service delivery to Kenyans," he remarked.

This comes a week after the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Performance and Delivery Management announced plans to commence a performance evaluation in all ministries and State Departments.

In a statement released on December 4, 2024, Eliud Owalo's office said the exercise will be done to evaluate the performance of the respective ministries and state departments during the 2023/2024 financial year.

"The performance indicators contained in the Performance Contracts (PC) are informed by national development goals, as espoused mainly in the Kenya Vision 2030 and the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

"The Contracts are cascaded to all Departments, Agencies, Sections, Units and eventually to all cadres of employees in order to entrench a performance-oriented culture in the public service," the statement read.

The evaluation which will be coordinated by the Public Service Performance Management Unit (PSPMU) will be used to establish the progress of the implementation of President William Ruto's agenda.
