Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused the National Intelligence Service (NIS) of following and monitoring his activities in Makueni.

In a statement dated Thursday, December 19, the impeached DP alleged that NIS had sent an officer to attend a funeral he and Pastor Dorcas Rigathi were invited to on Thursday, December 18.

According to Gachagua, the officer followed him and his allies from Nairobi to Makueni.

Gachagua also shared photos of the vehicle used in the monitoring exercise.

Consequently, he called out the security agency for wasting resources adding that they should have delegated the local officers in Makueni to monitor his activities.

"National Intelligence Service, please deploy this vehicle and this officer to do some useful work to enhance our security as a Nation. It was pointless to waste fuel and man-hours having him follow us all the way from Nairobi to Makueni yesterday," read the statement in part.

"It would save public funds to detail your officers in Makueni to listen to what I am saying, record and send to you instead of wasting public funds."

This is the second time the former DP has complained about being surveilled by the intelligence unit.

On November 21, he alleged that unknown men were monitoring his home and movements. He added that he felt his life was at risk.

“In this era of extrajudicial killings, forced abductions and disappearances by state agents, I have thought it important to share with Kenyans the harassment and intimidation I am going through, and inform them to hold the state responsible if I am harmed by state agents," he stated then.

“I request the state to leave me alone! You hounded me out of office, and you should now allow me to enjoy my peace as a private citizen.”
