The Ministry of Interior has revealed that security agencies thwarted 47 terror attacks in two years.

As detailed in a report issued on Thursday, December 19, the attacks were prevented between January 2022 and December 2024.

The report released by Acting Interior CS Musalia Mudavadi also documented that the attackers targeted various parts of the country. 

One notable planned attack that was highlighted was in Kwale County.

"Seven suspects were intercepted with firearms recovered," read the report in part. 

"In Lamu, the attack on the BPU camp was repulsed. Further terror threats were degraded and Al Shabab suspects arrested."

Meanwhile, Mudavadi added that several terrorists were eliminated in the process.

The CS also expressed confidence in the government's efforts aimed at addressing the threats of terror in the country.

He attributed Kenya's success in dealing with terror to increased cooperation among security agencies and their counterparts from other countries.

"On terrorism, Kenya has achieved milestones in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism, with the Global Terrorism Index (GTI) impact score decreasing from a High in 2023 to a Medium in 2024," read the report in part.

"Our records indicated that from January 2022 to November 2024 our officers thwarted 47 terrorist attacks across the country and during that period several terrorists were eliminated and the government pushed for 11 successful convictions. Noteworthy, our success also came through collaborations with other international agencies to thwart crime through training and equipment support."
