23 lawmakers have dared the government to seek facts over the re-emergence of illicit brew in Mt Kenya region following the response by Interior PS Raymond Omollo to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

In a statement shared by the former DP on Monday, December 23, his allies challenged the government to give details of companies that were licenced to manufacture and distribute 2nd generation alcohol.

The MPs led by Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba also asked the government to provide the names of individuals who vetted the companies before being licenced.

"Provide the names of the 15 companies that have been vetted and licensed to sell this 2nd generation alcohol; where they are located; what their product brands and authorized packaging is as sold to consumers; and where they are distributing their products," the MPs noted in their statement.

"The PS should specifically confirm whether the 13 companies he recently licensed were meant to sell exclusively in the Mt Kenya Region, and if it is true he vetted these ones entirely by himself."

In response to the government seeking evidence from Gachagua regarding his claims on the return of illicit brew, the leaders noted that a visit to shopping centres in the region would suffice.

Further, Gachagua allies accused President William Ruto's administration of sabotaging the work that had been done by the former DP in eliminating illicit brew in the vote-rich region.

"The return of illicit alcohol is a serious threat that will once again destroy families and communities across the nation, but especially in the Mt Kenya Region."

"The decision by the President to sabotage the work done by the 2nd Deputy President to eradicate killer brews and to once again allow its production, distribution, sale and consumption is an evil that all Kenyans must call out," the lawmakers alleged.
