The annual inflation rate in December rose by 0.2 per cent, a report by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) shows.
In the report released on Tuesday, December 31, annual inflation for the month was reported at 3 per cent— an increase from the 2.8 per cent recorded in November.
"The overall year-on-year (annual) inflation rate as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 3.0 per cent, in December 2024. The inflation rate was 2.8 per cent in November 2024. The month-to-month inflation rate was 0.6 per cent in December 2024," read the report in part.
"The annual inflation was mainly due to an increase in prices of commodities under the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, and Transport. The Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels Index decreased over the same period."

During the month, 8 food items including maize registered price increases.
KNBS detailed that the price of 2kg sifted maize flour increased by 7 per cent. That of fortified maize flour increased by 5.8 per cent.
The price of 1kg maize grain increased by increased by 1 kg.
Tomato prices also increased in December. 1 kg of tomatoes is reported to have increased by 1.8 per cent while a similar quantity of sugar increased by 0.9 per cent.
1 kg of beans increased by 0.9 per cent while a similar quantity of sukuma wiki increased by 0.7 per cent.
Conversely, some food items dropped in price, including wheat flour, onion, cabbages, potatoes and mangoes.
