Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was dealt a blow after the Anti-Corruption court in Nairobi ruled that he had a case to answer in a case involving a tender.
In a statement dated Friday, January 10, the DPP noted that the court agreed that there was sufficient evidence against the former county boss.
Sonko, alongside Anthony Otieno Ombok and ROG Security Limited are accused of extorting close to Ksh20 million from a supplier.

"As a result, Sonko, alongside Anthony Otieno Ombok and ROG Security Limited are required to counter the charges relating to extortion of Ksh. 20 million from a supplier in order to facilitate payments for work done at Nairobi County during his tenure as county chief."
The DPP reiterated that the ruling of the court was a win in its quest to deal with corruption cases.
"The ruling by Hon. C.N Ondieki follows a successful appeal by the DPP on 22nd December 2024, vide Nairobi High Court Anti-Corruption Appeal No. E016 of 2022, DPP vs Mike Mbuvi Sonko and 2 Others," the DPP added.
Sonko and his co-accused with give their defence starting May 15, 2025.
