Four people, a child included, died on the spot.

A terrible road accident claimed five lives on late Friday evening, January 10.

The crash involving a matatu and a school bus occurred in the Mutwot area along the Kapsabet-Eldoret Highway.

Police who showed up at the scene said the PSV, en route to Eldoret, lost control before it rammed into the Chebtabach Secondary School.

The officers established that the school bus was ferrying its occupants back to Nandi Hills after attending a social event in Uasin Gishu.

The accident was confirmed by Chesumei Sub County Police Commander Silas Kiokora.

Kiokora said four people, an infant included, died on the spot.

The driver of the matatu died at the Mosoriot Health Centre, where he had been rushed for treatment.
The Chebtabach Secondary School bus collided with a matatu.

"The matatu driver succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Mosoriot Health Centre. Passengers in the school bus and the matatu were taken to health facilities in Nandi and Uasin Gishu for first aid," Kiokora is quoted as saying.

The bodies were ferried to a morgue in Kapsabet pending identification; the wreckages were towed to the Mosoriot Police Station.

Survivors laid the blame on the matatu driver, whom they claimed was driving while under the influence of alcohol.

The accident preceded another one in which three people died.

The trio lost their lives following an early morning accident involving a bus along the Londiani-Kisumu Road on Saturday, January 11.

According to the Kericho County Traffic Enforcement Officer Selina Chirchir, the bus lost control when the driver was negotiating a bed at around 4 am.

Consequently, the vehicle veered off the road and landed on its side.

Due to the impact, three people including a child died on the spot.

Their bodies were transferred to the Londiani Mortuary for preservation.

Over 10 people were injured and taken to the nearby hospital for medical attention.

Police and rescue teams were also deployed to the scene to help in the evacuation efforts.
